Volunteering

Volunteering

Volunteering is an unpaid, conscious, voluntary activity for the benefit of others. Anyone who consciously and selflessly works for the benefit of others can be called a volunteer.

Volunteering as an idea of social service is almost as ancient as the concept of "society". There have always been people in society for whom the way to self-actualize, self-improve, connect and communicate with other people was to work for the benefit of the community in which this person happened to be born and / or live.

What will a volunteer do at the zoo, and what needs his help?

The help of volunteers is needed primarily to help zoo staff conduct explanatory work with visitors, provide reliable and fascinating information about animals, and introduce them to environmental protection. to help us monitor the welfare of our animals, and first of all to ensure that they are not fed by visitors. When animals are not fed what they are supposed to eat, they get sick, and sometimes they die.

In addition, a volunteer can be involved in the following activities::

- assistance in monitoring the welfare of zoo pets (identifying visitors with their food items, which they feed to animals);
- helping visitors navigate the zoo grounds;
- assistance during rush hours at the entrance to the zoo (explanatory work with visitors about the rules of behavior on the territory of the zoo);
- help with cleaning at the zoo;
- assistance in conducting festive and educational events at the zoo;
- any other assistance agreed with the zoo administration.

The attitude towards "our lesser brothers" is an indicator of our common culture. By helping animals, we cultivate kindness and compassion in ourselves and our children.

Not so long ago, we started inviting volunteers to help us monitor the welfare of our animals, and first of all, to ensure that they are not fed by visitors. When animals are not fed what they are supposed to eat, they get sick, and sometimes they die.
